This one is a late post.Belated Happy women’s day to all the ladies. Celebrating the day’s spirit, me and my female colleagues wore saree to work and clicked tons of pictures and made some hilarious Boomerang videos. I love the Boomerang app.
Today I give you 7 movies which revolve around female main characters you need to watch, and if you have already done, then watch it all over again. These movies not just entertain you but makes you think, sometimes change us or build up our confidence .
1.Chak De India
The film is based on Indian women`s hockey team which has been discouraged and ignored by everyone. Team`s coach Kabir Khan finds himself in charge of a group of 16 young women from various sections of India, who are divided by their own competitive natures and individual prejudices. Will they overcome their differences and work together?
2.Mad Max : Fury Road
“Out here, everything hurts. You wanna get through this? Do as I say. Now pick up what you can and run.”
One of the best dialogues by Charlize Theron as Furiosa who is a total badass, along with 5 other women have potrayed thier roles so amazingly, I was in awe. This movie which captures women caring for each other, lifting each other and fighting hard for what is right along with the help of Max (Tom Hardy) is a must watch.
3. English Vinglish
As quoted in Hollywood Reporter by Lisa Tsering – “Indian screen legend Sridevi triumphs in a gentle, but affecting, story of a woman’s awakening self-respect.”
This movie is such an entertainer and you will appreciate your mother and women more once you watch this.
4.Miss Congeniality
This is one of my all time favorite movies. I can never get tired of watching this. Gracie Hart played by Sandra Bullock is a tomboyish detective. When there is a threat for the pageant from an anonymous bomber she is made to infiltrate the Miss United States beauty pageant as a contestant .
5.Kahaani
Kahaani is a thriller movie of a pregnant woman in search of her missing husband. There are many scenes where your heart will almost skip a beat. You will be kept guessing till the end.
6.Bend it Like Beckham
This movie is about a daughter of orthodox Sikh who rebels against her parents and joins a football team.Even though i am not into football, I loved the way how Jess fights for her dreams and gets through all the hurdles.
7.Brave
Not your usual Disney story, this animation movie is about relationship between a Scottish princess and her mother and how the princess aspires to be the best archer in the kingdom. This movie is a combination of absolutely beautiful animation + humor. This is an enjoyable watch .
I have so many more of such movies like Mulan, Mona Lisa Smile, The Hidden figures etc added to my list which I will be binge watching until the near future. LOL.
Ladies get out of your usual pattern of daily life, DO something exciting, make an adventurous to-do list and do it, STOP procrastinating, SMILE more, support and help other women and be happy. Have a great weekend everyone and do let me know if you have watched any such movies.

My wife and I loved “Bend it Like Beckham”! I bet “Chak De India” is similar? I’ll have to look for that one.
Have you seen the movie “Sita Sings the Blues”? It’s an amazing film, and you can even find it uploaded on YouTube. I think you would enjoy the film, and especially appreciate the cultural references given your background.
Thanks for the list – all the best to you 🙂

All though I loved the visuals in the movie Brave, I was a bit disappointed in the story, to be honest. But maybe my expectations had been to high beforehand… Thanks for the other recommendations, there are definitely a few on there I hadn’t heard of or hadn’t considered!

@Epi B Yes the story of Brave was very different than the usual Disney stories, but what I liked about it was that they had actually focused on Princesses personal development and her aspirations (also on her relationship she had with her parents) than the usual romantic storyline they introduce.
But yes I have heard such feedback for the movie too. Hope you enjoy the other movies and have a great day 🙂
